This year IES La Senda is lucky to have 7 native English speakers from all over the world! There are three collaborating teachers and four language assistants! Here’s a brief introduction from each of them so you can get to know the people that will be helping out in the classrooms all year!
Hello! My name is Deirdre and I’m an art teacher from Ireland. I’m from a town called Gorey in the southeast of Ireland, but I lived in Dublin for many years before moving to Spain. This is my second year living in Madrid. My favourite thing about living here is the pleasant climate. The thing I miss the most from Ireland, apart from my family and friends, is being close to the sea. I studied Spanish when I was in school and have always wanted to live in Spain. Madrid is a fantastic city and I love being able to visit the art museums and galleries. I’ve gotten a great first impression from the students and staff at IES La Senda and I look forward to a year of teaching here.
My name is Frances (Nic Reamoinn). I am from Dublin, Ireland. I am a Physical Education teacher and this is my 2nd year teaching PE in Spain. I obviously love sports, but my favourites are athletics, volleyball, swimming, cycling and hiking. I used to run for Ireland and ran in the European and World Cross Country Championships. I love Spain…the food, the siestas, the fiestas and of course..the weather! 1 interesting fact about me is I have a huge family, I have 5 sisters and 3 brothers!!! Great fun! Well i guess that´s me!
I was born in Evanston, Illinois, grew up in southern California, and moved to Madrid from Seattle, Washington. I earned a BA in Theatre from the University of California, San Diego in 2001 and a Masters in Teaching from Seattle University in 2014. I came to Madrid to begin my teaching career in a new country in order to experience a new language and culture as I continue to grow as a teacher of social studies and theatre arts. I am very happy to be working with so many talented teachers and students at La Senda, and look forward to the years ahead.
Hi! I’m Ellen and I am from a small town near Seattle,WA called Poulsbo. This is my second year as a language assistant in Spain. I was in a secondary school in Salamanca, Castilla y León last year. I graduated from Western Washington University and graduated with a BA in History as well as Spanish. During my four years at college I was lucky enough to do a semester abroad at the University of Salamanca! I love traveling, meeting new people, soccer, and learning new languages. As of now I only know English and Spanish (más o menos) but would love to learn French and Italian in the future. I am very excited to be in Getafe all year working with a great staff and amazing students!
