In our secound year of bilingualism at La Senda we countinue to associate our lessons with cultural activities pertaining to the calender. February we celebrated the “day of love” known as Saint Valentine’s Day. Our students wrote poems, made Valentine’s cards, and did a fundraiser activity to benefit the Getafe Red Cross.
Our fundraiser (solidario) consisted of selling carnation flowers (claveles) that could be given as gifts to those special people in the lives of the purchasers. We requested that the purchasers of the flowers gave us a Valentine’s card to be attached to the flower in order to deliver to that special recipient. All in all we sold 300 carnations which raised a total of 220€ to be donated to the Red Cross of Getafe.
The rose is red, the violet’s blue,
The honey’s sweet, and so are you.
Thou art my love and I am thine;
I drew thee to my Valentine:
The lot was cast and then I drew,
And Fortune said it shou’d be you.
